MOUNTAIN TOP, PA.     Mountain Top is neither a town nor a city,   it is an area. It is located in the Western Pocono Mountains between the Lehigh and Susquehanna rivers, and nestled between the cities of Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Mountain Top area is comprised of Fairview, Wright, Rice, Slocum, Dorrance Townships and Nuangola Borough. Each municipality has their own police force, volunteer fire departments, and ambulance service. They also interact with each other when needed.

Originally Mountain Top was a section of Fairview Township, but as time passed, and local post offices closed, the last post office was located in Fairview Township and was known as the Mountain Top post office. Thus, the entire area listed above came under this post office.

Mountain Top today, approximately 110 square miles, is primarily a pleasant, residential community of about 15000 residence. Taxes are reasonable, homes are not crowded, the air is clean and there is no heavy traffic. At 1800 ft. elevation, we have many lakes, farms, large forests, pristine surroundings and moderate climate.
Our Crestwood Area School District provides an excellent education for students. There are many small shopping areas, stores, offices, churches, libraries, banks, and restaurants in the Mountain Top area that provide services and employment to local people.
The Crestwood Industrial Park contains between 15 and 20 industries and is located in Wright Township. It is easily accessed from Pa Route 309 or Interstates 80 and 81, which cross 7 miles from the park entrance.

Conveniently located in the nearby cities of Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre are larger shopping malls, government offices, five colleges, three hospitals, news papers  movies, recreation areas, an airport, the home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre "Red Barons" (baseball team), the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (hockey team).

Some residents miss the facilities offered by the large cities but the majority says that the small town atmosphere provides a very pleasant place to live and raise your family. Although the population is growing rapidly, most people would prefer to see the area remain "country".

Mountain Top is a great place to live, stay healthy, and be happy.

The Sunset Drive In Theatre was located along state route 309 in Wright Township. It was established in 1947 by three brothers, Charles, William, and Vincent Novinski, and their brother-in-law Robert O'Boyle. Many local people were employed at the drive in. It was the first drive in theatre in north eastern Pennsylvania. As television came to be the center of family entertainment the Sunset was forced to close in 1957.  Today this same piece of real estate is occupied by the Mr. Z's shopping center.
